This tamborim (and its 6 lugged sibling) is the one that most players in Rio samba schools baterias prefer to use.
There is no advantage to having 8 lugs in terms of longevity of skins. Depending on the shape of your hand and the way you hold the instrument, you will find either 6 or 8 lugs more comfortable to hold. A comfortable grip will minimise tension in your hands and arms whilst playing tamborim .
