This gorgeous professional quality caixa drum is the make and model used most Rio and can be played at waist height or up on the shoulder. It has a crisp, dry, high cutting tone, quite different from the European style of snare drum. It has a wire snare and the drum is played with the snares on top.

The samba caixa should not be substituted for by a standard snare drum, which sounds totally different, as well as being much heavier to carry.

Hardened aluminium shell, nylon skin with 6 tuning rods, snares on top, 12 inch nylon head, 17 cm deep body, but the drum is 20cm because of the tuning rings. , made by craftsmen from Artcelsior or King Rio de Janeiro.
